History

Heritage Bank is State Chartered and opened in 2003. The Bank has one location located at 3024 SW Wanamaker Road in Topeka, Kansas. We offer a full array of Banking services and desire to be a premier community bank striving to build long-term relationships with both individuals and small businesses, primarily in Shawnee County. These long-term relationships are based on mutual trust and our expertise and accountability which will allow our customers and community to prosper.

Tony is a lifelong Topekan and graduate of Washburn University with a BA in Business and Finance. He is also a graduate of the Graduate School of Banking at Colorado. He cares deeply about our community and is involved in many volunteer capacities in the community. He is married and the father of three busy boys. When he’s not attending their sporting events, he can be found outdoors, hunting, fishing or boating with his German Shorthair, Rudy, or inside playing with his couch-potato Chocolate Labrador, Louie.

Dave is a native Kansan and began his banking career in 1979. He enjoys the approach to banking that a community bank offers. Dave currently serves as Treasurer of the Board of Directors for the Topeka Youth Project and is President for the Dover Community Center Board of Directors. A resident of Topeka since 2011, he enjoys the diverse culture of the city. In his free time he enjoys running. He has two children and three granddaughters.

Katie was born in Washington State, but was raised in Osage City, Kansas. She began her career in banking in 2009 and came to Heritage Bank in 2015 as a Personal Banker. She takes pride in providing top-notch service to her customers. Outside of the bank, Katie enjoys spending time with her husband and son and is a University of Kansas Jayhawks fan. She likes to spend time on the beautiful lakes and rivers of Kansas, fishing and being outdoors as much as possible.

Carol worked in various banking positions for 21 years; Trust Investments, Correspondent Banking, Commercial Lending and Cash Management ending her working career as a Senior Vice President of Commercial Banking. She is one of the founding Board of Directors of Heritage Bank, 2004 to present. Carol was born in St. Louis and grew up in Emporia. She holds her undergraduate degree from Emporia State University majoring in Business (computer science) and Economics, She earned an MBA from University of Kansas. She is also currently the Recording Secretary of the Board of Directors, Topeka Country Club. Her husband, Ken, retired from ownership of a commercial general construction company and a masonry company. They belong to Christ the King Church. The Pecis’ have two grown children.

B. Kent Garlinghouse Portrait B. Kent Garlinghouse

Kent was born in New York City and grew up in St. Louis. He graduated from Wesleyan University (Connecticut), and received an M.B.A. from Harvard. Kent is Chairman of M-C Industries, Inc. (Polo Custom Products), a Topeka-based manufacturer with plants in Iowa and Mississippi and production in Asia. Kent and his wife founded Topeka Collegiate School (K through 8th grade) in 1982; at the time it was only the second independent school in Kansas. He has served on numerous corporate and non-profit boards and chaired Topeka Collegiate School, Heritage Bank, St. Francis Health Center, and Children’s Discovery Center. He has served on the Boards of Washburn University Endowment Association and Topeka Community Foundation. Kent and his wife, Susan, live in Topeka, Kansas. They have five children and 12 grandchildren.

Margaret S. La Rue

Margaret is a community volunteer and a Director of her family's business, Salisbury Supply Co. Inc., a distributor of construction and industrial supplies. Previously, she was a Vice President with Capitol Federal Savings in Topeka. During her tenure she served in the areas of Retail Banking and Residential Mortgage Lending. Margaret holds a B. S. degree in Business Administration from the University of Kansas. A life-long resident of the Topeka area, Margaret has volunteered for over 15 years for the Kansas Children’s Service League currently serving as Vice Chairman, she’s a Kansas Children’s Service League Foundation Trustee and the Fund Development Chairman, also an Episcopal Diocese of Kansas Trustee and the Finance Committee Chairman, while serving the Topeka West High School PTO/Booster Club as Treasurer. Margaret is a founding member of The Women’s Fund and a sustaining member of The Junior League of Topeka. She and her husband, Tighe, have two children.

Brett is the Vice President of Operations at Midwest Health in Topeka. He graduated from the University of Kansas. He has been a Topeka resident his entire life. Brett is involved in many community organizations including Chamber of Commerce, Topeka Community Foundation, 20/30 Club and Visit Topeka.

Lee is the Vice President of Senior Living at Midwest Health in Topeka. He graduated from Washburn University. He has lived in and around Topeka for his entire life. Lee is involved in many community organizations including Junior Achievement, Heart Association, Arthritis Foundation, Kidney Foundation, 20/30 Club and local hospital charities.

Tony currently serves as Heritage Bank’s President and Chief Executive Officer. He brings an accomplished history of community banking experience, as well as years of regulatory experience as a bank examiner with the Office of the State Bank Commissioner. Tony's past banking experience includes serving most recently as Vice President, Commercial Loan Officer at Kaw Valley Bank. Tony graduated from Washburn University with a BA in Business and Finance. He also is a graduate of the Graduate School of Banking at Colorado. He cares deeply about our community and is involved in many volunteer capacities including the Greater Topeka Partnership, Jayhawk Area Council of Boy Scouts of America, Topeka Home Builders Association, Kaw Valley Quail and Upland Wildlife Federation Board and Hayden Catholic High School Blue & Gold Gala and Golf committees. Tony resides in Topeka with his wife, their 3 sons and 2 dogs.

Dave Sandir Portriat Dave Sandir

Dave Sandir grew up in Kansas, having attended Shawnee Mission West schools and furthering his education at KU, graduating with a BSB in Business Management and minors in Marketing and International Management. At an early age Dave developed a passion for business, joining Commercial Group in 1999. He rose quickly to senior executive staff, eventually purchasing the Company. In his role as President and CEO, Dave supervises all new development and acquisition projects as well as overseeing over 50 properties and assets of over $150 million dollars in Commercial Management’s current portfolio. He collaborates with partnerships that require him to work directly with government officials, attorneys and syndicators. Dave is often sought out for his strategic planning and entrepreneurial expertise. Dave & his wife, Panna, reside in Topeka and stay very busy keeping up with their two boys and their many activities.

J.D. Lakhani is a long time Topeka resident having moved here from India. He has been instrumental in the development of many commercial properties in and around Topeka as well as being the founder of Commercial Group, a development company providing low income housing in many states throughout America. Even though he officially “retired” at age 80, that hasn’t slowed J.D. down any. He serves in an advisory capacity to many Topeka businesses and volunteers his time as a mentor through the local chapter of the nationwide non-profit organization, SCORE, dedicated to helping small businesses get off the ground, grow and achieve their goals through education and mentorship . JD and his wife, Kusum, are the proud parents of two daughters, Priti and Purvi. They love to travel and cherish the time they spend with their grandson Paul.
